UNT Alumni Association Membership

November 21st, 2016 | Posted in Alumni News

As the UNT Alumni Association continues to grow, several changes have taken place to match the current interests and needs of its members. Some of these changes included the addition of more regional programming, increased student scholarships, and hiring new staff positions.

Membership fees have not changed in more than 20 years despite increasing needs of the association and its members. In September 2017, membership fees will increase in order to provide more opportunities to alumni members and the UNT alumni family.

“With the increase in available resources, the alumni association will be introducing new member benefits, increased alumni programming, and updated fulfillment packages that offer higher quality membership materials,” said Rob McInturf, executive director of the UNT Alumni Association.

These changes to membership are a testament to the growth of the UNT Alumni Association and the University as a whole. It is a demonstration of the commitment and dedication of the UNT alumni family to a lasting Mean Green legacy.

Did you know that there are nearly 3,000 UNT alumni and friends that give a gift to the university every year? These committed donors are part of UNT’s new loyalty giving society, The Loyal Eagles. The Loyal Eagles is dedicated to recognizing UNT eagles who — by making a gift toward UNT for two or more consecutive years — advance the university’s mission, students, campus and community. No matter which area on or off campus they choose to support, their generosity plays a critical role in assisting the UNT community every year.

We are proud and thankful to have these Loyal Eagles amongst our UNT family. You too can become a Loyal Eagle by committing to an annual gift. Simply visit and schedule your donation for annual installments.

Planned Giving

Create a Lasting Legacy with a Charitable Remainder Trust

We are all passionate about UNT and the role our time here as students has played in our success. A Charitable Remainder Trust will enable you to give a significant gift to UNT and benefit from your generosity at the same time. A Charitable Remainder Trust is an especially efficient and generous way to deal with real estate (especially commercial) in cases where a large capital gains tax would apply to the sale. Recent examples we’ve seen include a strip center, an office building and rental properties.

If you’ve built a sizeable estate and are looking for ways to receive reliable payments, you may want to check out the benefits of setting up a Charitable Remainder Trust. Some of your fellow alumni have already added a Charitable Remainder Trust to their estate plans.

Benefits of a Charitable Remainder Trust include:

  • A partial charitable income tax deduction.
  • Potential for increased income.
  • Up-front avoidance of capital gains tax.

There are two ways to receive payments:

The Annuity Trust pays the same dollar amount each year that you choose at the start. Your payments remain the same, regardless of fluctuations in trust investments.

The Unitrust pays a variable amount each year based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. Your payments will be adjusted each year based on the value of the assets. If the value of the trust increases, so do your payments. Likewise, if the value decreases, so will your payments.

UNT will work with you, your CPA, attorney and financial planner to ensure that the Charitable Remainder Trust fits well with your overall financial estate plans.
