Master’s and doctoral alumni of the UNT College of Education gathered to reminisce and learn about the college’s current events at the annual spring reunion June 9 in the UNT Union. Dean Jerry Thomas, who is retiring in July, also gave an overview of the college’s accomplishments from the past year, including recognition of 26 alumni across North Texas who were named teachers or administrators of the year in their districts.

“Students often form tight bonds and friendships when they’re earning their master’s and doctoral degrees, as they’re working in smaller groups and on more focused subjects,” Thomas said. “This reunion gives them a chance to catch up with their classmates as well as faculty members, who are always eager to hear how their former students are doing.”

Also at the event, two College of Education alumni received awards for their outstanding scholarly work as graduate students. Anthony Duplanty, a graduate of the Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (KHPR) doctoral program, earned the 2015 Outstanding Dissertation Award. Duplanty is now a postdoctoral fellow at the Louisiana State School of Medicine in New Orleans. Danielle Levitt, a 2015 KHPR master’s graduate, earned the Outstanding Thesis Award. Levitt is now working on her doctoral degree in the KHPR department.

Another graduate-level alumni reunion is planned for spring 2017. For more information about the UNT College of Education, visit coe.unt.edu.
