Recycle for Scholarships

June 13th, 2016 Posted in Alumni News

image001The UNT Alumni Association has partnered with Recycle2Solution on a sustainable initiative to help reduce waste on campus and by doing so, provide scholarships to students.

UNT Alumni Association Board member Brett Stallard ’97 brought the idea of providing the campus with recycle bins for students and locals to drop off clothes and shoes they no longer need or want.  The DFW based waste management company will empty the bins and provide the alumni association with philanthropic support based on the weight of these donations to support its scholarship fund.

“Since graduating from North Texas, a group of fellow alumni have always tried to help each other professionally through our contacts,” Stallard says. “One of the guys connected me with Recycle2Solution for a personal venture. Then it hit me what a great connection it could be for North Texas.”

Since then the UNT Alumni Association has worked with multiple units on campus including the Office of Sustainability, University Facilities, Student Affairs, Housing and Parking to coordinate the addition of the recycle bins to campus just in time for the end of the May semester.
