Student awarded scholarship from Texas City Management Association

Misty Ricketts, a master of public administration student, has received a $3,500 Clarence E. Ridley Scholarship from the Texas City Management Association. Ricketts has been employed by the City of Irving since September 2008. She is currently the city’s senior management analyst for the Financial Services Department, managing Irving’s more than $400 million investment portfolio, monitoring daily cash flow and collateral and overseeing merchant card services. She has also worked as a senior management analyst and executive assistant in the city manager’s office.

UNT study finds answer to increasing cognition for moderate dementia

Results from a UNT study found a positive connection between the use of hearing aids and improvements in cognition in older adults who had already been diagnosed with moderate dementia, but the researchers note that auditory training results in more improvement than wearing hearing aids without the training. Amyn Amlani, associate professor in UNT’s Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and Kyle Harber, a doctoral audiology student, provided hearing aids to 12 older adults who had been diagnosed with dementia 18 months to three years before the study began.

Airport app concept nets UNT students win in first contest

Ever been lost in an airport terminal or nearly miss a flight because you were late? An airport app concept created by University of North Texas students may provide the answer to these and other air travel issues. The app, unveiled at the American Association of Airport Executives conference this month in Houston, is designed to give flight passengers easier travel experiences.

John Richmond named dean of UNT’s College of Music

John W. Richmond, director of the Glenn Korff School of Music in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has been named the dean of the University of North Texas College of Music.

NORTH TEXAS RELEASES KICKOFF TIMES FOR 2016 HOME GAMES

The kickoff times for all 2016 home games for the North Texas Mean Green have all been selected. The season’s home opener and head coaching debut for Seth Littrell will be at 6 PM on Saturday, September 3rd at Apogee Stadium, when the Mean Green host rival SMU. Conference USA will release a full television schedule at a later date, and kickoff times for road games will also be announced later.
