University Day Time Capsules

On April 16, the UNT community celebrated our 55th annual University Day, the anniversary of the day our institution became a University. During this celebration, two time capsules were opened for the public—one from 1962 and one from 1988.

Though buried over two decades apart, both capsules had one significant similarity: both were designed to be opened on University Day, 2015. The UNT president, along with power tools and construction equipment, unearthed both capsules the week before University Day. Then the Special Collections staff at UNT Libraries took over to discover what treasures were held within each capsule.
