Saxophone player Walt Weiskopf in Concert Nov. 26

Tenor saxophone player Walt Weiskopf, pictured below, will play in concert with UNT’s renowned One O’Clock Lab Band on Nov. 26.

SaxophoneThe One O’Clock Lab Band welcomes critically-acclaimed saxophone player, composer and author Walt Weiskopf as its guest artist for a concert in Winspear Hall in Denton at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 (Tuesday).

The band recently released its CD Lab 2013, an homage to its hometown of Denton, which will be available for purchase at the concert.

“Walt is simply one of the most accomplished musicians in the world today,” said One O’Clock Lab Band Director Steve Wiest. “He has made an important impact on the world of tenor sax as well as the field of jazz pedagogy. We are all very excited to have him here and to play his original compositions with him. I can guarantee that it will be an exciting show!”

Weiskopf began his New York career performing with the Buddy Rich Big Band. He has released 12 critically-acclaimed CDs and has numerous sideman credits, including performances and recordings with Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan and Donald Fagen. Weiskopf has written books on improvisation and currently teaches part-time at Temple University in Philadelphia.

The Nov. 26 concert starts at 8 p.m. in Winspear Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 Interstate 35E, in Denton. The concert will also be streamed online at http://UNTmusiclive.com.

Ticket are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors, non-UNT students, children, UNT faculty, staff and retirees, and groups of 10 or more; free for UNT students with valid ID.
