Dr. Phil Speaks to UNT grads

June 9th, 2011 Posted in Alumni News

Alumnus and television star, Dr. Phil McGraw, brought his message to master’s and doctoral graduates during the 2011 Spring Commencement ceremonies, 32 years after he received his doctorate in clinical psychology from UNT. McGraw’s speech drew applause and laughter as he urged graduates to pursue success by setting clear goals, taking risks, and knowing their “authentic self” while referencing his own success story. He also talked about his own time at UNT in the 1970s and spoke of the university as “one of the best-kept secrets in America.”

The commencement ceremonies honored the achievements of almost 4,000 students. This spring, about 3,210 undergraduate students, 702 master’s students and 82 doctoral candidates applied for graduation.
