Solar panels to make new stadium more
environmentally friendly

May 6th, 2011 Posted in Alumni News

In an effort to make UNT’s new football stadium even greener, the university will install a high-efficiency solar panel system on a section of the roof of the student entrance. In September 2010, UNT submitted a grant application to the State Energy Conservation Office for $1 million. The grant will fund the purchase and installation of the 126kW solar panel system. Construction crews are moving forward with the installation in expectation of receiving the grant. The solar panels will be one more environmentally friendly feature of the stadium, which is expected to earn gold level certification form the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system.
