UNT System Board of Regents Names New Faces for President, Head Football Coach

As the new year begins, new staff members find themselves at UNT. After serving as interim president since May, V. Lane Rawlins was formally approved by the UNT System Board of Regents to serve as the 15th president of UNT. In addition, the regents approved the hiring of Dan McCarney from the University of Florida to take over as UNT’s 18th head football coach. McCarney will be the first head coach to lead the team in the new stadium in the fall. For more about the two newest additions to the Mean Green family, visit

Malaysian Alumni Reunion Invites Memories, Friends

Recently, a group of about 100 UNT Malaysian alumni held a reunion in Malaysia. With so many in attendance, the event was standing room only as alumni from different states in Malysia and a couple from Indonesia and Australia gathered to reminisce on their days at UNT. In addition to sharing memories, UNT memorabilia was auctioned off and given as door prizes. The event was such a success that the group hopes to plan another reunion in the future.

Denton County Day 2011

Join us February 21-22 in Austin to acquaint the state’s top elected decision makers and key agency officials with the many assets of the county, including the University of North Texas, and heighten the overall image and visibility of the North Texas area.

This joint project of the chambers of commerce of Denton County ultimately intends to provide more exposure for area legislators, thus helping them to better represent the needs of their particular constituents.

UNT piano professor earns Grammy nomination.

Renowned pianist Joseph Banowetz, a University of North Texas professor of music, has earned a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra for his recording of Kletzki’s Piano Concerto in D Minor, Op. 22.

Marketing faculty member travels to China to develop course for N-Gen Initiative

Dr. Lou Pelton, associate professor, Senior N-Gen fellow and Ph. D.
